Join us for the first Camas showing of Big Medicine: York Outdoors!
This 35 minute film was a collaborative effort between Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail and NEW Multimedia, as part of Big Medicine: The York Project, an initiative to bring York’s story to the foreground.
York, or “Big Medicine,” as he was referred to some of the Indigenous peoples he encountered, was an enslaved man who traveled with Lewis and Clark on their historic journey. The documentary follows eight Black educators and environmental stewards as they retrace the steps of the Lewis and Clark Expedition, reflecting on York’s legacy and the importance of outdoor recreation on a four-day river trip through Upper Missouri River Breaks National Monument.
Along with the film, we’ll share more about York, and how he came to be on Lewis and Clark’s historic journey.
